Overview
The Lemosho route has become increasingly popular in recent years, and for good reason: it boasts breathtaking views, excellent acclimatization opportunities, and some of the highest summit success rates of all Kilimanjaro routes. Beginning on the western slope of the mountain, the Lemosho route offers two itinerary options: a 7-day and an 8-day trek. One of the notable features of the Lemosho route is the presence of the unique and imposing Dendrosenecio kilimanjaro plants, which are exclusive to this mountain and add to its otherworldly charm.

This is an acclimatization trek because you will gain over 800m by starting walking across a beautiful valley outside Shira caldera rim. After few hours you will reach into Shira caldera. Shira is one among the three peaks which erupted in Kilimanjaro ecosystem. It is a high altitude desert. After thousands of years the collapsing of the peak formed the crater and ultimately became filled with the lava flow from Kibo peak. The volcanic action and the weather are some of the factors that erode its rim. Overnight at the Shira one campsite.

This part of the route has a lot of ups and downs that gets you to lava tower. Some parts of the trek are difficult and it is common to experience some discomfort and this is due to the body trying to adjust with the altitude but in order to successfully acclimate to the altitude you have to spend at least an hour, where you will also have hot lunch. After lunch you will descent down to barranco camp for dinner an overnight.

This is the point from where you can have the views of the fabled crater and its icecaps and after one hour of hiking along the crater rim you would find yourself on the true summit of Kilimanjaro.
Your main activity here is to take the photographs to memorize the victory.
